5 WAYS TO USE COCONUT OIL IN YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE
Updated: Oct 11, 2020
Health benefits of coconut oil have been known to us for a while now. But did you know that apart from being a chemical-free superfood, it can also be the ultimate multi-tasking product for your beauty uses?
From taming your frizzy mane to moisturizing your skin, coconut oil has a wide and diverse range of uses.
This beauty staple has a long shelf life and is the jack of all trades with next to zero nasty side effects.
We’ve compiled five of the many ways you can use coconut oil in your beauty routine below:
1. Head to Toe Moisturizer:
Pure, raw virgin coconut oil is rich in essential fatty acids such as lauric, capric and caprylic acid. These not only create a micro-thin barrier to lock in moisture but also have anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties to promote skin health.
Hop out of the shower and apply a thin layer of coconut oil all over your body. Being rich in healthy fatty acids it is the perfect organic moisturizer. It absorbs into the skin and hydrates without feeling greasy or oily. It also helps that you will smell like a beach
vacation all day.
2. Hair mask:
Coconut oil can work wonders for dry, damaged and frizzy hair. Vitamin E and other healthy fats in the oil help to trap moisture in and protect each strand of hair from further drying out while you shampoo – resulting in soft, healthy and shiny hair.
Rub some coconut oil between your palms and massage it on to your hair from roots to the tips (skip the roots if you have oily roots). Leave it on for 20-30 minutes before washing it off with a gentle shampoo. If you are feeling brave, leave it on overnight and wash it off the next morning. Remember to
cover your hair with a shower cap or a towel
if you are leaving it overnight so that you
don’t get oil on your pillows.
3. Make-up remover:
Coconut oil can either be applied directly as an oil cleanser or can be dabbed on to a cotton pad and used to wipe off make up.
Apply a small amount to the face, eye lids, eyelashes, and lips before gently wiping off with a moist cloth or washing off with warm water and a cleanser.
It’s effective in cleansing away the most resistant, waterproof mascara or long stay lipstick but gentle enough to nourish the skin as well – especially around sensitive areas like the eyes.
4. Alternative to shaving cream:
Apply a thin layer of coconut oil onto your legs or underarms (or anywhere else really) before shaving. Vitamin E and other healthy fatty acids in coconut oil help to lock in moisture, leaving your pins and underarms smelling divine and as smooth as a baby’s bottom.
5. Frizz tamer
If you struggle with taming your mane, coconut oil can definitely help. Rub a small bit of coconut oil to your palms and run through particularly frizzy areas of your hair to leave it looking smooth and polished.
You can also add a tiny amount of coconut oil to the ends of your hair to add a little shine if you have dark hair.
